'I'm in a happy place right now'

Last Updated 16 January 2018, 19:07 IST

He is known for his good looks, great hair and acting skills. But it's his zeal and energy that makes Dheeraj Dhoopar the star that he is. He rose to fame as Prem Bhardwaj from 'Sasural Simar Ka'. He now plays the lead role in the hit series 'Kundali Bhagya'. In a candid chat with Anila Kurian, Dheeraj talks about his successes and how he maintains his perfect hair.

How does it feel to be a style icon for youngsters?

It's absolutely amazing! I am a fashion designer by qualification and I always wanted to be a ramp model. But I couldn't do so because of my height. That's why I became a print model and climbed my way up from there. So I'm glad that even with my busy schedule, people look up to me and take tips from me.

Do you give styling tips to your co-stars too?

All the time! Most of my co-actors ask for suggestions when they have to attend something important or on a general basis. I enjoy being their mentor.

Tell us the secret of your perfect hair...

Why not? I spend a lot of money on it and use the right products to make it look the way it does. As for revealing the secret, my team and I are working on starting a blog very soon and post hair tutorials. Hold on a bit longer and I will spill all my secrets very soon (laughs).

And your wife, Vinny Arora...  does she like taking tips from you?

I did tell her to get a blunt haircut last time, and she's been receiving some raving compliments from everyone.

What about work wise? How busy are you these days?

It's quite hectic, I must say. Especially because the show is doing so well, there's a lot of expectations. Being the lead actor, there's so much and so many who depend on you to make the show great. By the end of the day, I'm just exhausted. But I have no complaints.

Have you found any interesting scripts to make your Bollywood debut yet?

There were a few that came to the signing stage but due to certain technical issues, I couldn't go ahead with it. But I'm in a happy place right now. I believe in destiny and I know it will take me places.

You and Vinny love travelling. Where have you guys been globetrotting?

A bunch of places! Maldives, Manali, Hong Kong are some of the places we went to last year. We are planning to go to London, South Africa and Sri Lanka this year.

Have you set any goals for yourself this year?

I am a fitness freak and everyone knows that. But I want to continue living a healthy life. I've completely stopped having sweets. I hope to continue taking smaller steps like this and take care of my health.
