National cultural festival on Jan 19, 20 in Mangaluru

Ministry of Culture will organise a national cultural festival under 'Ek Bharath Shreshta Bharath' programme at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru on January 19 and 20.

Briefing reporters here on Wednesday, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that with a view to celebrate unity in diversity and maintain and strengthen the fabric of the society, artistes from different states will present a cultural extravaganza. The programme also aims to promote the spirit of national integration between all Indian states. Similar programmes have already been organised at Bengaluru and Hubballi. The programme will be inaugurated in the presence of District-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, Mayor Kavitha Sanil and Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.

As many as 26 teams with more than 400 artsites from Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, and Gujarat will take part.

Artistes will present 'Chholiya', 'Chhapeli', 'Thadiya', 'Chaufula' of Uttarakhand, 'Bodo' tribal dance of Assam, 'Gudum Baja' of Madhya Pradesh, 'Ghoomar' of Haryana, 'Rauf' dance of Jammu and Kashmir, 'Dhangari Gaja' of Maharashtra, 'Kaksar' dance of Chattisgarh, 'Bhangra' of Punjab, 'Gangaur' of Madhya Pradesh, 'Kalbelia' dance Rajasthan, 'Gaddi' dance of Himachal Pradesh, 'Siddhi Dhamal' folk dance of Gujarat, 'Purulia Chhau' dance of West Bengal, 'Sambalpuri' of Odisha, 'Ghodemodni' of Goa, 'Thiruvathira' of Kerala and others.

In addition, there will be 21 stalls exhibiting the handicrafts of various states and food stalls from five states as well.
