Krishna writes to PM, seeks Bharat Ratna for Siddaganga seer

Former chief minister and BJP leader S M Krishna has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to confer Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, on Siddaganaga seer Shivakumara Swami.

"The 111-year-old pontiff is rendering service to the society for the past eight decades, uplifting lakhs of needy and downtrodden. The seer, who believes in an egalitarian society, has been preaching against the practice of superstition, social evils and discrimination of all kinds," Krishna said in a letter to Modi.

The BJP leader said, "It is the wish of lakhs of devotees to see the Siddaganga seer honoured with Bharat Ratna in recognition of the yeoman service being rendered by the Swami."

He said Shivakumara Swami deserved India's highest civilian honour for his selfless service rendered for the past eight decades.
