Fire by dawn guts 16 shops in Koppal; none hurt

Sixteen small shops and a vehicle were burnt to a cinder in a fire that broke out in the Karatagi town (Koppal district),  on Sunday morning.

Fire department sources said that the accident occurred at about 4 am caused probably by the blasting of three LPG cylinders.

The sheds in front of the special tahsildar's office on the state highway were completely gutted in the fire.

The sheds were occupied by a mechanic, hair-styling salon, hotel and pan shopkeepers.

Firemen rushed to the spot and put out the blaze. This saved greater damage to life and property.

Fire force staff confirmed that no people were hurt in the accident.

Because of the accident, the traffic on the highway was re-routed to other roads. The real cause for the accident is yet to ascertained.

MLA Shivaraj Tandagi, high-ranking revenue, police, Gescom, municipal   and fire officers visited the spot.

The shopkeepers appealed to the officers present to provide them an alternative source of livelihood; now that all they possess has gone up in flames.
