Karnataka Energy Minister D K Shivakumar said that as there are many senior leaders in the Congress who are eligible to become the next chief minister, he was not in the race to be CM.

After hoisting the flag here on Friday, Shivakumar spoke to reporters and said that he did have ambitions of becoming chief minister in the future, but he was willing to wait for the opportunity. He added that he was now focused on bringing Congress back to power in the state.

Replying to a question by scribes on the rise in communal killings between 2005 and 2015 and the alleged efforts to cover up the murders,  the minister said the government was now contemplating on solving  only cases pertaining to farmers and pro-Kannada organisations; based on police reports.
