Quality of edn helps India attain developed status: UoM in-charge VC

The University of Mysore in-charge vice chancellor C Basavaraju on Saturday, said that the country will attain developed status only when all sections of people get a quality education.

He was addressing a gathering during an international symposium on 'Educational Development and Social Welfare', organised by the UoM, in association with Naresuan University, Netherlands at St Philomena's First Grade College here.

The VC said, "There is a need for strengthening higher education in the country and it is possible to change the nation with the help of quality education." The VC lamented that there is lack of quality teachers.

Many varsities have been following the old syllabus and thus, many youths are deprived of jobs as per their qualification. He urged the government to earmark more funds for higher education.

Basavaraju said that scientific research centres are not up to the mark and there is a need for good laboratories to conduct research. Due to lack of quality education, many students who have won gold medals have remained unemployed, he lamented.

Former VC of Davanagere University S Indumathi and former VC of Kalinga University, Chhattisgarh, M Madaiah were present.
