Anganwadi centre used as homestay

Last Updated 29 January 2018, 18:38 IST

An anganwadi centre, which should have ensured tiny tots are engaged in various activities, was converted to a homestay for a day.

It is said that the anganwadi worker of Udothmotte in the taluk has let the centre be used for the stay of 19 tourists from Bengaluru.

A large number of tourists had visited the district in the weekend. A group of tourists from Bengaluru had sought lodging facilities at Udothmotte, but did not get lodging facilities. When they enquired with a canteen owner, he had reportedly pointed at the anganwadi centre. The anganwadi worker allowed the team to stay in the centre.

Taken to task

On hearing of the matter, the parents and local youth laid siege to the anganwadi centre and took the anganwadi worker to task for renting out the government building.

On the development of the commotion, the 19 tourists left the venue in the night itself. The group included 14 women, one man and four children, said local residents.

The residents said, "The government offices are being misused in the district. Some are running homestays in lodges. There is a need to end such misuse of government offices."

They also demanded that the deputy commissioner conduct a raid on government offices at night.
