Renita D'Silva, author of best-selling English novels like 'Monsoon Memories' and 'The Forgotten Daughter', who is presently residing in the UK was felicitated by her Alma Mater, the Milagres English Medium School, Kallianpur.

Addressing the gathering, headmaster Fr Lancy Fernandes SJ said that alumni are the backbone of every institution. "Honouring great achievers of the school is a duty as well as honour for us. The school is privileged to have one of the students taking the fame of the school overseas," he said.

Renita, in turn, said that during her school days, she was an ordinary student except that she enjoyed reading novels and writing creative articles and experiences. Her imagination was her strength.

Renita is the daughter of Cyril D Silva and Hilda D'Silva, who retired as professor after teaching for several years in Milagres College, Kallianpur. Her family, which was native to Bantwal, relocated to Kallianpur, when Renita was three months old. An alumna of Milagres College, she belonged to the first batch of students to pass out from the high school, in 1992.

She pursued her engineering at NITK, Suratkal, and is now settled in London. Her novels are women-centric with Indian ethos and settings.

Her first novel 'Monsoon Memories' was released in 2013. It was followed by 'The Forgotten Daughter' (2014), 'The Stolen Girl' (2014) and 'A Sister's Promise' (2015). Her latest novel 'A Mother's Secret' is soon to be released.

Milagres Educational Institutions correspondent Fr Stany B Lobo, on behalf of the management, honoured Renita with the Mysore Peta, shawl, bouquet of flowers and a memento. Many teachers who taught her in her school days were also present during the felicitation.
