Can dogs socialise? This question may appear silly to many pet owners, as they proudly accompanied their dogs to the Silicon City Kennel Club's Dog show on Saturday where they familiarised their beloved German Shepherds, Cocker Spaniels, Rottweilers and Great Danes with other breeds.

The dogs also excelled in competitions, organised in different categories such as confirmation of pure breed dogs and obedience tests.

Neetha, a German Sheppard from the police department, stole the show by shadowing her master at a brisk pace and watching for hints to make changes.

Deepthi and Pavan had brought their 11-month-old German Sheppard, Max, only for socialising. "Max doesn't see many dogs as he lives in an apartment. We wanted to show him there are dogs like him in different shapes and sizes. Max seems excited," Deepthi said.

Deepthi asked those wanting a pet to have a dog only if they are prepared to treat them as part of their family. "And, never abandon them," she stressed.

The event was organised at Hebbal's Veterinary Sciences College that houses numerous stray dogs. Threatened by the presence of several pure breeds, the strays appeared aggressive in protecting their territories and barked fiercely at the freely prancing pure breeds inside the venue.
