Noted poet Dr Channaveera Kanavi was conferred with "Sahitya Bangara" award instituted by S Bangarappa Pratishtana and Bangarappa Vichara Vedike, here on Tuesday. The award carries a purse of Rs one lakh and a memento.
JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy and Madhu Bangarappa presented the award at Kanavi's residence. The poet was unable to attend the award ceremony in Bengaluru due to ill-health.
