Last Updated 23 February 2018, 13:01 IST

Shanthinagar legislator N A Haris's son  Mohammed Haris Nalapad is  cooling his heels  as  prisoner  number  1756 in the undertrial barrack of the Parappana Agrahara  jail. He is not lodged in the high-security block as reported by some sections of the media.

Nalapad and two of the co-suspects, Arun Babu and Abhishek, are lodged in one cell, while four other suspects  - Manjunath, Mohammed Apras Ashraf, Balakrishna and  Mohammed Nasir alias Naafi  - are in  two adjacent cells. They were not allowed to mingle with other undertrials.

Each cell is attached with an Indian-style toilet. The suspects experienced some discomfort while attending to nature's call, Somashekhar, the  chief superintendent of the prison, told DH.

Some of Nalapad's friends visited the prison  on Thursday  morning to meet him, but the prison staff  disallowed them.

Only family members

For the first week, only family members can meet Nalapad and  his associates. But no family member or relative has turned up at the jail.  All the suspects remained in their cells all the time, he added.

On the second day of the jail stint, the suspects were served puliyogare (tamarind rice) for breakfast around 7.30 am, but they ate it only around 8.30 am. Ragi ball, rice and sambar were served for lunch around 12.30 pm. Dinner came at 5.30 pm and Nalapad asked for ragi ball.
