Condolences pour in from Bollywood on sudden demise of Sridevi

The Indian film industry on Sunday condoled the death of Sridevi, who passed away at the age of 54.

The veteran Rajinikanth, who had acted with her in Chaal Baaz, tweeted: "I'm shocked and very disturbed. I've lost a dear friend and the industry has lost a true legend. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I feel the pain with them #RIPSridevi ... you will be missed."

"Have witnessed Sridevi's life from an adolescent teenager to the magnificent lady she became. Her stardom was well deserved. Many happy moments with her flash through my mind including the last time I met her. Sadma's lullaby haunts me now. We'll miss her," said Kamal Hassan, her co-star in Sadma.

Her co-star in Yash Chopra films – Lamhe and Chandhi, Rishi Kapoor tweeted, "Woken up to this tragic news. Absolute shock. Sad. Heartfelt condolences to Boney and their two daughters!"

"I have always been a huge fan of her work. Equally I have always been an admirer of her grace and dignity with which she conducted herself," tweeted Aamir Khan.

Akshay Kumar, tweeted, "Shocked beyond words to hear about the sad and untimely demise of #Sridevi. A dream for many, had the good fortune of sharing screen space with her long ago and witnessed her continued grace over the years. Thoughts and prayers with the family. RIP."

"I can't just believe this," said the action hero of yesteryears, Dharmendra. His wife Hema Malini, the MP from Mathura, said: "Can't imagine how such a bubbly person, a wonderful actor, is no more. This is not an age to go."

Nothing makes sense. I have no words.. just completely shocked. RIP Sridevi. My icon forever. Love you," Alia Bhatt tweeted. "I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved #Sridevi . A dark day . RIP," said Priyanka Chopra.

"It is really, really sad. When I woke up and read about it, it is really sad. I have no words to express to what I feel because we all grew up watching her and suddenly to hear that she is no longer with us, it is hard to believe," said BharatRatna Sachin Tendulkar, who keenly follows Indian cinema.

Amitabh Bachchan's tweet came minutes before she died.  Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan's tweet came just a few minutes before Sridevi's death was announced. Did he a premonition? "Na jaane kyun, ek ajeeb si ghabrahat ho rahi hain," Amitabh tweeted in Hindi. This means - don't know why, feeling a strange restlessness. Amitabh and Sridevi has given a hits Khuda Gawah, Inquilaab, Aakhree Raasta – and also in 2011 he made a special appearance in English Vinglish.
