Club Mahindra has come forward to develop Nehru Mantapa into an alternative to Rajaseat to attract tourists. In this background, after fencing the Nehru Mantapa, CMC will hand it over to Club Mahindra for its maintenance. The Nehru Mantapa was in dilapidated condition for the last several years. However, none had given attention to maintain it. According to available sources, Club Mahindra is planning to develop the park at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh.

The only park which has been attracting the tourists in Kodagu is Rajaseat. Owing to the six months rain in Kodagu, horticulture department also finds it difficult to grow flowering plants in Rajaseat. Flowers can be grown in Rajaseat between October to May. Rajaseat is known for viewing sunset amidst the beauty of nature. Though horticulture department had planned several programmes to develop Rajaseat, nothing has been initiated so far.

In this background, many feel that it is better to go for PPP mode to develop parks in Madikeri. Before entering into an agreement with private, CMC should lay certain conditions for the maintenance of the Park.

Nehru Mantapa is known for natural beauty and it is one of the good spot for those who wish to go for walking in the morning and evening. Unfortunately, the Nehru Mantapa is in neglected state. In the meantime, under Chief Minister’s Small and Medium Town Development project, of Rs 15 crore released by the government, CMC has earmarked Rs 40 lakh for the development of parks. The development of Nehru Park will definitely add beauty to the Madikeri town.
