Bengaluru environmentalist to plant 2,018 saplings in Jain centre

An eco-warrior from Bengaluru has taken up planting of 2,018 saplings at Shravanabelagola, to commemorate the just concluded Mahamastakbhisheka 2018. The programme was launched here, on Monday.

Environmentalist Vidyashankar has taken up the green initiative. MLA C N Balakrishna launched the programme by planting a sapling on the premises of the tourist bungalow.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, a total of 2,018 saplings will be planted on either side of the Shravanabelagola-Channarayapatna route.

The saplings, include banyan tree, kadamba, mango, jamun, jack and mahogany. "As the temple administration has decided to conduct special abhisheka atop Vindhyagiri every Sunday till August, we will visit the place and plant the saplings every Sunday," Vidyashankar said.

ZP member Mamatha Rajesh, APMC president V N Manjunath and Taluk Panchayat member Mahalaskhmi were present.
