<p>The state government on Friday launched its universal health coverage scheme, "Arogya Karnataka." All the present schemes such as Vajpayee Arogyashree, Yeshaswini, Rajiv Arogya Bhagya and others would be brought under the newly launched scheme.</p>.<p>Ten government hospitals in the state have been selected implementing the scheme in the first phase - KC General Hospital, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research and Victoria Hospital, all in Bengaluru; Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, Mandya; McGann Institute of Medical Sciences, Shivamogga; Wenlock district hospital, Mangaluru; Karnataka Institute of Medical Services, Hubballi; Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences, Kalaburagi and Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences, Ballari. All the government hospitals including community health centres would be covered under the scheme by December 31.</p>.<p>The beneficiaries will get a health card once they approach government hospitals for treatment. The health card is issued on the basis of the Aadhaar or ration card.</p>.<p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who launched the scheme, said that issue of health card would be a continuous process and hence people need not wait in queue to obtain it.</p>.<div>He added that patients have to first approach a government hospital seeking treatment. "They will be referred to private hospitals empanelled under the scheme, only if treatment facility is not available in government </div>.<div>hospitals."</div>.<p>Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar said that dialysis, CT scan and MRI facilities would be made available in all taluk hospitals and hence patients need not approach private hospitals to avail of these services.</p>
