Medical scam: CBI seizes diamonds and gold worth Rs 38 lakh

During its fresh searches, the investigation agency also recovered property documents including of a shop and an office space in posh Andheri area of Mumbai, a CBI spokesperson said today.

The central agency also found that Desai and his family own five vehicles including three high-end ones-- a Toyota Camry, Honda City and Hyundai Sonata, he said.
Yesterday, the CBI had claimed to have recovered gold worth Rs 35 lakh from two bank lockers of Desai in Ahmedabad besides documents related to immovable properties.
"The third and fourth locker have yielded gold and diamonds worth Rs 38 lakhs," the spokesperson said today.

The official also said that documents showing possession of three more plots in the name of President MCI and his family members in Kalol (Mehsana), Sanand and in Ahmedabad have been recovered.

The CBI had claimed that agency sleuths had recovered documents showing that he had land in his name in Ahmedabad, an investment of Rs 20 lakh in a local home finance company, one property in a shopping mall and a plot of land.Besides he and his wife were Directors in one Zems Infrastructure Private Limited, the spokesman claimed.
Desai was arrested along with three others for allegedly receiving Rs two crore as bribe from a Punjab-based medical college for giving sanction to enrol students for year 2010-11 though it lacked adequate infrastructure.
