Tripura an ideological victory: Modi

'Jeet hamari jari hai, ab Karnataka ki bari hai'- our victory run continues, now it is Karnataka's turn- is how Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted at a BJP Parliamentary Party meeting her on Tuesday where he described Tripura results as an ideological victory.

Modi also asked MPs not to fall for Opposition campaign that Tripura was a "small state with just two Lok Sabha seats" and that they should counter it, as the victory came after trouncing the CPI(M)-led Left Front, which was in power for 25 years without a break.

His comments came as several Opposition leaders sought to counter the saffron euphoria over the Tripura victory, citing its small size of voters and Lok Sabha seats.

At the meeting in Parliament Library Building, the Prime Minister said, "each state and election is important. Tripura was considered a bastion of Marxism for the last 25 years," Modi said.

He said the results in the Northeast, especially Tripura, has changed the mood in the party and that the leaders should make most of it in the coming months, as several Assembly polls are lined up

Modi also referred to winning one seat in Kerala Assembly elections last year and said it had energised the cadres. "There is hope and expectation in the country and the party needs to work hard to maintain its winning streak," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar quoted Modi as saying.

A significant portion of Modi's speech was on the Left during which he said the Left politics was underpinned by violence and hate and that people have rejected it everywhere. "It is finished across the world and is on the verge of oblivion in India as it is now in power only in Kerala," Modi claimed.

The BJP MPs were distributed 'angavastram' brought from Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland and offered 'prasad' from Assam's famous 'Kamakhya' temple, which is believed by the faithful to be the protector of the Northeast.
