Hassan district: Where women rule the roost

International Women's Day is celebrated to highlight the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Women have moved ahead, showing that they are capable of ruling the world.

Hassan district is an example, where women adorn important administrative posts. Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri, Additional DC B R Poornima, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K M Janaki, Regional Transport Officer T G Hemavathy, Employment Officer Vijayalakshmi, Senior Scientist of Mines and Geology department Padmaja, Muzrai Tahsildar Vidyalath are a few of them.

The elected representatives are ZP president Shwetha Devaraj, ZP Standing Committee president Bhavani Revanna, Hassan CMC vice president Leelavathy Vasu, Arkalgud taluk panchayat president Veena Manjunath, Arsikere taluk panchayat president Roopa Gurumurthy, Alur taluk panchayat president Usha Chandrashetty, Holenarsipur taluk panchayat president Jayalakshmi, Belur taluk panchayat vice president Kamalamma and   Sakleshpur taluk panchayat president Shwetha Prasanna.

When Rohini Sindhuri took charge as Deputy Commissioner, she was instrumental in speeding up the administrative machinery. She also introduced the web portal app 'Spandana' to solve the problems faced by the public, within a few days. She made necessary arrangements to provide 24x7 darshan during Hasanamba festival, which was lauded by the devotees. She played a major role in adopting latest technology to make the Bahubali Mahamastakabhisheka a success.

K M Janaki, who was additional DC, was promoted as Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer. She has been successful in making Hassan district 'Open defecation-free'.

B R Poornima, who served in Mandya, was deployed as additional deputy commissioner six months ago. The upcoming elections will be a great challenge for these three officers.

ZP CEO Janaki said, We have been trying to handle the responsibility given by the government efficiently. Women are multitaskers by nature and have been managing both family and work. Women can excel in all fields if she gets the right opportunity."
