Lingayat religion: Seers warn of 'Dharma Yuddha'

The National Council of Mutt Heads has sought the state government to reject the report of expert committee on separate religion tag for Lingayat faith.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Prasanna Renuka Veerasomeshwara Swami of Rambhapuri Peeta said that nobody can separate Lingayat and Veerashaiva religion and the pontiffis will have to declare a "Dharma Yuddha" if the state government attempts to do so.

The seer said that the report has been obtained in a hurry owing to pressure exerted by religious heads and politicians. "The government should not interfere in the matter of religious faith. The chief minister should dismiss the report and strive to create a public opinion about the unity of Veerashaiva and Lingayat faith," he said.
