CBI to seek extension of Karti's custody

The CBI will seek extension of Karti Chidambaram's custody in the INX Media case for confronting him with other accused Peter and Indrani Mukerjea and chartered accountant Bhaskararaman.

The three-day CBI custody of karti, son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, is ending on Friday and he will be produced before special CBI judge Sunil Rana at 2 pm.

Sources said the agency would ask for his further custody as investigators want to confront him with the other accused. The CBI will move applications for production warrant of Peter, Indrani and Bhaskararaman.

However, it is not clear whether the agency would press for a narco-analysis test on Karti during the hearing on Friday.

The INX Media case came to the CBI after the Enforcement Directorate seized a hard disk belonging to Bhaskararaman from which invoices related to payment to firms suspected to be linked with Karti were recovered.

The CBI had last Sunday brought both Karti and Indrani, one of the former INX Media promoters who is presently in jail in connection with her daughter's murder, face to face. In a statement recorded before a magistrate, she had claimed that she and her husband Peter Mukerjea had met Chidambaram who asked them to help his son.
