8 new suburban trains from today, relief for commuters

Last Updated 12 March 2018, 02:56 IST

The Railways will operate new suburban services on the Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield and Banaswadi-Hosur and City Station-Baiyappanahalli routes from Monday, much to the relief of commuters to the IT corridor in the east of the city.

Two electric (MEMU) trains will operate on the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR)-Byappanahalli route. A MEMU train will leave the KSR station at 7.50 am and reach Baiyappanahalli at 8.15 am, giving sufficient time for passengers to board the 8.25 am Whitefield train, which was introduced several months ago.

The new service from Baiyappanahalli will depart at 4.45 pm and reach Whitefield at 5.05 pm.

On the return direction, the train will leave Whitefield at 9 am and reach Baiyappanahalli at 9.20 am.

Due to the lack of electrification, Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) trains will run on the Banaswadi-Hosur line. Two DEMU services from Banaswadi will depart at 9.50 am and 12.40 pm and reach Hosur.

In the opposite direction, the two additional trains will leave Hosur at 11.15 am and 3.20 pm.

All the trains from Banaswadi will run via Baiyappanahalli, allowing time for passengers to board other trains or use the Metro services.
