Instead of helping a  man who was grievously injured in an accident, onlookers were busy filming the man, said the police.

The incident happend near Nayandahalli junction on Tuesday when a speeding truck knocked down Madan Lal (34), who was riding a bike, from behind.

Madan Lal, a resident of Panchasheela Layout in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, was on his way to work.

Lal's legs were crushed under the rear wheels of the truck. Passerby rushed to the spot after hearing his screams but none came forward to help Lal. Instead, some of them gathered around him and started clicking photos and recording videos on their smart phones.

The insensitive act continued close to 20 minutes till head constable Puttaswamy and constable Somasunder of Byatarayanapura traffic police station reached the spot. The duo took Lal to hospital in a goods autorickshaw and admitted him to a private hospital.

The police later arrested truck driver Palaksha and seized the truck. Somasunder told DH that passersby could have  taken the injured Lal to hospital instead of waiting for the ambulance. "Even after we visited the spot, they were trying to ask us to wait for the ambulance. Instead, we decided to take the injured in a goods autorickshaw to a hospital," he said.
