SKDRDP to start SRI campaign

Addressing a press meet on Wednesday, Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said SRI paddy cultivation requires less water and less expenditure gives more yields and is beneficial for farmers.

He said “we have planned the formation of Sri Belegarara Okkuta, creation of leaders and time to time training of the farmers. The target is to grow 25 quintal paddy in one acre land in a year. Around 10,000 tonne paddy will be grown in 20,000 acre land. About 7,500 farmers have been identified and given training. In the first phase, SRI system of farming will be introduced in 10,000 acre land,” he added.

He said crop loan of Rs 10,000 at 9 per cent interest for one acre land will also be given to the farmers. For crop loan, SKDRDP will raise loan of Rs 20.85 crore from NABARD.  Heggade said last year a sum of Rs 9.06 crore was given as financial assistance to schools, burial ground, hospitals, temples, Milk Producers Co-operative Society.

Stating that 1,15,172 Self-Help Groups have been constituted in the state, he said 12,32,422 families are benefiting from the SHGs. The financial assistance of Rs 92.65 crore is being given to Self-Help Groups. The SHGs have saved a sum of Rs 209 crore last year.
Under Sujnana Nidhi Yojane, 3,006 students were given scholarships amounting to Rs 2.43 crore.

He said “we are planning to construct 1,000 houses to the flood victims in Kongavada, Basapura and Arahatti villages in Dharwad. The construction of 260 houses have been completed. The construction of 450 houses will be completed by the month end. 2,500 houses will be repaired.”
