Kapikad witnesses Ramakrishna Mission's cleanliness drive

The 20th week's drive of Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan was organised at Bejai Kapikad on Sunday.

The drive was flagged off by Dr Dhanesh Kumar K U, Nitte College of Physiotherapy principal; and Sri Kudroli Ganesh, renowned magician.

Dr Dhanesh Kumar opined that Swacchata Abhiyan should not be for show-off but should spring out of genuine concern. Each and every responsible citizen to join Ramakrishna Mission in cleanliness drive, he advised.

Both sides of the road from Kapikad to Bejai bus stand, Anegundi Road, the adjoining drains, footpaths were cleaned by the volunteers under the leadership of MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Vittaldas Prabhu, Umar Farooq K, P N Bhat, Mehboob and Uday K P. Illegal flexes, banners and posters were removed. Faded direction boards were cleaned and repainted.

Students of St Aloysius College under the guidance of lecturers, Prajna Jain and Metilda Veronika Pais visited houses and shops distributing awareness handbills and urging them to keep their areas clean.

Students of the Nitte Physiotherapy College also took part in the drive. About 200 volunteers were part of the cleanliness drive.

Swami Jitakamananda, president of the Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangaluru unit, was present on the occasion.
