Two persons were severely injured in a group clash that erupted over the construction of Basaveshwara temple at Mandibettahalli in the taluk on Saturday.
Jayakumar and Komme Basappa, who sustained injuries, are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru.
It may be mentioned that late MLA, K S Puttannaiah, had released Rs 12.5 lakh under his constituency fund to construct the temple. Sunita, Puttannaiah's wife, and son Darshan, who visited the village on Friday, advised the villagers to form a committee in the name of the temple. During the meeting, villager Shivakumar allegedly abused another person Military Papanna. However, the village heads managed to pacify the duo.
According to sources, a few people attacked Jayakumar and Basappa at their house on Saturday morning. Police arrested Manjunath, Nandish, Kumar, and Mahadevaswamy in connection with the clash.
As a precautionary measure, police personnel have been deputed in the village.
