The Byatarayanapura traffic police have arrested one person in connection with a recent hit-and-run case involving the death of a traffic constable.
The constable, Ravishankar, was run over by a truck while he was on duty near Devegowda Circle on March 17.
The arrested has been identified as Mahesh (30), a native of Nagamangala taluk, and employed with a private transport company in the city, the police said.
On the day of the accident, Mahesh was driving a loaded truck near Devegowda Circle, meanwhile, Ravishankar, who was attached to the Byatarayanapura traffic police station, was manning the traffic on the road along with a home guard.
Incidentally, Ravishankar had to cross the road to attend nature's call. And as he was crossing the road, a speeding truck from behind ran over him. He died on the spot as he had sustained fatal injuries from the impact.
After catching him, the police also verified if Mahesh was drunk on the day of the accident. They said that he was driving the truck in a rash and reckless manner which caused the accident. Immediately after the accident, he left the vehicle with the owner, and took leave from work for a few days, the police said. During their investigation, the police have searched and verified over 35 trucks before zeroing in on Mahesh's, they said.
