Serving food at meet: KSE warns stir

Leader of the Opposition in the Council K S Eshwarappa, on Sunday, described as unfair the Election Commission's order against serving food at a rally of backward classes planned at Kaginele in Haveri district on Tuesday.

Eshwarappa warned that he would hold a protest in front of the office of the Haveri deputy commissioner, also the district election officer (DEO), if the commission does not grant permission before 11 am on Monday.

Addressing a press conference, he said the Commission had said it had no objection to serving water and butter milk to the participants. But utensils and other items would be seized if food is prepared for serving it to the participants, it has said.

Eshwarappa said that the chief electoral officer of the state had told him that the full responsibility in this regard was with the Haveri DEO.

The BJP leader it would not be right to send the participants to send on an empty stomach and hence, the commission should allow serving of food at the convention.
