ABVP joins CBSE row after its leader is arrested

Last Updated 01 April 2018, 17:08 IST

The ABVP has joined the chorus against the CBSE paper leak, demanding the "immediate" sacking of the board's chairperson Anita Karwal for her failure in maintaining the sanctity of the board examinations.

This comes after a convenor of the organisation, identified as Satish Pandey, was arrested, along with others, by the Jharkhand Police last Friday for their involvement in leaking the Class X Mathematics papers.

Pandey, who hails from the left-wing extremism-hit district of Chatra in Jharkhand, served as an ABVP convenor till recently, several ABVP activists in the state told DH, requesting anonymity.

After his arrest in connection with the case, the ABVP, however, claimed that Pandey was removed from the post of state secretary and someone else was appointed in his place in February, after he was found to have started running a coaching institute in violation of the rules.

"We are demanding the immediate sacking of the CBSE chief, strict action against all culprits of the leak and proper preventive measures in place to prevent any such incident", ABVP national general secretary Ashish Chouhan said in a statement.

The students' outfit also gave a call for holding a two-day nationwide protest against the leaks, starting Sunday, to press for various demands including the sacking of the board's chairperson.

The ABVP activists staged a protest demonstration on Saturday against the board examination paper leak here outside the CBSE headquarters, while the activists of the Congress-backed National Students Union of India protested outside the ABVP's office here over Pandey's arrest in connection with the case.
