Huge support for online plea over school fees

Last Updated 01 April 2018, 19:18 IST

Frustration with high private school fee has bubbled over to the internet. An online petition against this on change.org has received nearly 27,000 signatures in a week.

The petition, addressed to the chief minister of Karnataka, was started by A B Suresh, a volunteer with a group called Mission Education Federation.

In the plea, he argues that education is a fundamental right and expresses frustration against the state government for not introducing the revised fee norms that were to be published in January. The petition suggests the government make it compulsory for schools to get its approval before hiking their fee.

Fee regulation has been a long-pending demand of parents across the state. The Mission Education Federation is also collecting information on the fee hike in schools across Bengaluru. This information will be used to file a complaint with the District-level Education Regulatory Authority (DERA), the committee headed by the deputy commissioner of the district which looks into violations of fee regulations.
