'Extend benefits to retired police'

Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi has said that retired police personnel should be recognised and honoured as the rich treasure of experience and knowledge that they possess is commendable and should be used for the growth of the police department.

Speaking on the occasion of the Police Flag Day on Monday, the SP said that retired police personnel should be honoured and assured of all required facilities. He said that the retired police personnel would henceforth be offered health insurance cover.

He said that police personnel should be accorded due status and it is the responsibility of the department to take care of retired personnel. The funds collected on flag day would be utilised for the welfare of retired police personnel, he said.

Rs 3.84-lakh worth flags

The SP said that already Rs 3.84-lakh worth flags have been distributed all over the stations and other police units. The total amount of Rs 1.92-lakh would be collected after selling the flags and deposited into the account of the retired police personnel welfare fund shortly. As many as 67 applications have been accepted for medical treatments and Rs 5.05 lakh would be assured to these applicants. A total amount of 24,98,368 is on demand but due to lack of insufficient funds, only Rs 5.05 lakh is being offered, he added.

Retired police personnel Rajgopal said that the police have a higher responsibility of maintaining peace and also taking care of public property. He said flag day is essential and carries more weightage as the funds collected would be donated to the retired police personnel welfare fund, he added.
