Race for tickets gains momentum in C'magaluru

As the election date has been announced, efforts by ticket aspirants to get tickets have gathered momentum.

The JD(S) has announced its candidates for all five constituencies while BJP and Congress are finalising the names. Those who are confident of getting ticket have already started preparing for the campaign.

B H Harish, H G Venkatesh, T H Shivashankarappa, V S Y Datta and B B Ningaiah will contest with JD(S) ticket in Chikkamagaluru, Sringeri, Tarikere, Kadur and Mudigere constituencies respectively. They are from Lingayat, Okkaliga, Kuruba, Brahmin and Dalit communities.

There is a large number of aspirants in BJP and Congress. The parties will take into account the opinion of public and workers in the selection.

AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, K C Venugopal, during his recent visit to the state had hinted at providing tickets to those who have the capacity to win the election.

BJP aspirants are lobbying for tickets. Some are ready to contest independently if they are not given a ticket.

Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi is willing to contest again.

From Congress, KPCC vice president B L Shankar, general secretary A V Gayatri Shantegowda, M L Murthy Congress leader, Congress district Committee president Dr D L Vijaykumar, Jungle Lodges and Resorts Corporation chairman A N Mahesh, AICC member B M Sandeep, KPCC Kisan unit state convener C N Akmal and Savita Ramesh are in the race.

In Mudigere reserve constituency, former MLA M P Kumaraswamy, Deepak Doddaiah, ZP members B Shivshankar, B S Chaitrashree and Banakal Shamanna are said to be the aspirants in the BJP. From Congress, MLC Motamma, ZP former member Hoovappa, Nagaratna and Nayana (Motamma's daughter) hope to contest.

Sringeri MLA D N Jeevaraj is willing to contest with BJP ticket. A S Nayana too is an aspirant. From Congress, ZP former President T D Rajegowda, NRI forum deputy chairman Arati Krishna, KPCC Kisan unit president Sachin Meega, former minister Taradevi Siddarth and Dr Amshumanth are in the race.

In Tarikere, former MLA D S Suresh, H M Gopikrishna, H M Omkarappa and R Devanand are aspirants for BJP ticket. From Congress, MLA G H Srinivas, T V Shivashankarappa, Doranalu Paramesh, S Lokeshwarappa, T N Gopinath and K R Dhruvakumar are the aspirants.

In Kadur, ZP former president Belliprakash, Rekha Huliyappa Gowda, former MLA Dr V C Vishwanath, M P Narayanaswamy, H H Devaraj, G K Girish Uppara and K B Somesh are willing to contest from the BJP.

Former MLA K B Mallikarjun, ZP members K R Mahesh Wadiyar, Sharat Krishnamurthy, ZP former president K M Kemparaju, K S Anand, K M Vinayak, C M Dhananjay, C Nanjappa, Dr Nirantara Ganesh, Chandrappa, Vanamala Devraj and K H Ranganath are expecting Congress ticket.
