Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday promised pourakarmikas to increase their wages from the present Rs 17,000 to Rs 30,000, if voted to power.
Speaking at a convention organised by the Pourakarmikara Samudaaya Vedike, the state BJP chief said, "I have received a list of demands from your forum and all of them will be met as soon as we take charge."
Some of the demands put forth by the forum are: equal pay for all, permanent houses, regularise all 20,000 workers and not just 4,000 of them, allow a pourakarmika to contest elections, bonus of Rs 25,000 for all workers on Ambedkar Jayanti every year and free medical check-ups.
