Each Assembly segment to have one women-operated polling station

One polling station in each Assembly segment will be managed by women staff, including polling staff, police and security.

A total of 224 women-managed polling stations will be set for the entire state, said O P Rawat, Chief Election Commissioner on Tuesday.

VVPATs (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) will be used along with electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all 56,696 polling stations of 224 Assembly segments.

On a pilot basis, VVPAT of one polling station in each Assembly segments will be randomly selected to count VVPAT paper slips for verification of the result obtained from the control unit, he said.

Booth-level planning:

For the first time, booth-level planning and management will be implemented in Karnataka.

According to the Election Commission, booth-level plans for all 56,696 polling stations have been prepared to contain all information and standard operating procedure for the response for smooth conduct of elections at each polling station.

These booth-level plans will be used for Assembly segment, district, and state level elections management plans.

As a new innovation, GIS-based planning, implementation, and monitoring of various election-related activities are being implemented in the state for poll planning, he said.

Lowest turnout polling station:  

The commission had identified the lowest turnout polling station in the state in earlier elections and special initiatives will be taken to motivate the voters to exercise their rights, he said.
