RPI to contest from 40 constituencies in Karnataka

The Republican Party of India (RPI), which has its roots in the great legendary B R Ambedkar, would be contesting in 40 Assembly constituencies across the state.

In other states, it would be supporting like-minded parties like CPI (M) and CPI.

Speaking to reporters, the Republican Party of India state president R Mohan Rao said that the party would be supporting the ideologies of Ambedkar and currently the party is led by Prakash Y Ambedkar, the grandson of the great visionary. Rao added that the contestants would be from the downtrodden and backward communities who strive for the principles put forth by Ambedkar.

Threat to Dalits

He added that the current situation, with the country moving away from the pedestals of secularism, is becoming a threat to the very existence of Dalits and minorities. Such people are treated inferior and are discarded from the mainstream of the society. The Central government should be blamed for all the atrocities taking place against the Dalits and the backward class communities. The present Supreme Court ruling on SC/ST is yet another severe blow. All political parties are fake and greedy, merely utilising the backward classes for their selfish gains. They all play the vote bank game.

Rao said that the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah is no different and has failed to reach out to the Dalits and backward class citizens.

Yechury to campaign

In Udupi district, Shekhar Havanje is the candidate. He has worked for the cause of Dalits and also struggled to get their rights back in various instances. CPI (M) leader Seetharam Yechury and Prakash Y Ambedkar would be campaigning.

Rao said that, in Udupi, RPI would field its contestants in Udupi and Karkala. In Karkala, a contestant for the Adivasi community is being considered. The first list, which was released on Sunday, contains only 10 candidates' names. The second round list of candidates will be announced soon. The name of the contestant from Karkala will be in the second round list.
