Woman held for drug peddling, 200 gm of contraband seized

The Southeast division police from Begur have arrested a 22-year-old woman for drug peddling and have seized 200 gm of contraband recently.

The arrested suspect, Latha Rajappa, is a resident of Devarachikkanahalli and used to sell marijuana to college students and to people with criminal antecedents in Beguru, the police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ramesh KN, who is himself the complainant in the case, received credible information about a woman selling narcotics in front of Madhura Garments Gate on Beguru Main Road on March 28 afternoon.

He along with a few policewomen, including a sub-inspector and a gazetted officer, conducted a raid and caught Latha with the drugs.

She had both, powdered and leaf forms of marijuana, which she procured from her contacts in
Denkanikottai in Tamil Nadu, she told the police during her arrest.

During interrogation, she told the police that she was not married, but lived with her boyfriend at a rented house in Devarachikkanahalli.

As her boyfriend was arrested in a theft case and was in jail, she resorted to selling 'ganja' to make both ends meet, she told the police.

Her customers were mainly her boyfriend's other friends who were also habitual offenders, the police said.

Latha was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
