The JD(S) is making a desperate bid to woo actor Sudeep to join the party ahead of the Assembly elections.

It is learnt that the JD(S) has offered to make him an MLC, and subsequently a minister, if the party comes to power. Keen to cash in on Sudeep's stardom, the JD(S) wants him to join the party and be its star campaigner.

JD(S) H D Kumaraswamy on Monday held a breakfast meeting with Sudeep at his J P Nagar residence. His wife Anitha Kumaraswamy, son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, JD(S) MLA Sa Ra Mahesh, former mayor of Mysuru Ravi Kumar who is Sudeep's nephew (a filmmaker) were present at the meeting.

According to party sources, Sudeep spent nearly two hours with Kumaraswamy discussing politics. This is the actor's second such meeting with Kumaraswamy.

On December 17, 2017, Sudeep had invited Kumaraswamy to his residence. He had even donned the chef's hat to prepare a special meal for Kumaraswamy, who had celebrated his birthday the day before. Then, too, the duo had spent a lot of time together, raising speculations about Sudeep's probable entry into politics.

The actor belongs to the Nayaka Valmiki community, which has a significant presence in Davangere, Chitradurga, Ballari and Raichur. The JD(S) is of the belief that Sudeep's entry would give it a major fillip in around 15 to 20 districts.

"He has a huge fan following in a majority of the districts. The party will benefit to a large extent if he campaigns for us. He has, however, sought some more time to convey his response to the party. He said that he will consult his parents and wife before arriving at a decision. Sudeep also discussed filmmaking with Nikhil," said a party leader.

A fortnight ago, Sudeep fuelled speculations in political circles when he met the chief minister. It was rumoured that the Congress, too, is trying to woo him as his uncle, former JD(S) MLC Sarovar Srinivas, joined the Congress a few days ago.
