CPI to enter fray in 4 seats

Communist Party of India (CPI) will field its candidates in Mudigere, Chikkamagaluru, Sira and Kudligi Assembly constituencies in the upcoming elections, CPI state committee secretary Sati Sundaresh said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press meet here, he said the party had taken a decision to contest from only four constituencies with an intention to prevent the division of anti-communal votes.

In the other constituencies, the party will support the candidates following secular ideology and those who have the ability to defeat BJP candidates. "It is very important to see to it that BJP does not come to power in the state. This also holds good for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, the CPI has decided not to support the JD(S), which will possibly lend support to the BJP post-election," Sundaresh said.

Sundaresh said the Congress should think of taking along all anti-BJP parties. He welcomed the Congress' decision not to field candidates against Raitha Sangha candidates.
