Poll code: Artiste's suspension revoked

The Moodbidri election officer has revoked his order suspending an artiste of Kateel Yakshagana troupe.

Election officer V Prasanna had issued a written order recommending the suspension of Kateel troupe Yakshagana artiste Poorneshwara Acharya, for allegedly making a politically motivated statement with an indirect reference to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, while performing in yakshagana. The act attracted action for breach of the model code of conduct.

Poorneshwara Achary was accused of mimicking Rahul's dialogue in a yakshagana play on April 1. A video clip of Acharya uttering the dialogues had gone viral on social media. It is said the controversial dialogue was uttered by the artiste during a different yakshagana staged at Kasargod, Kerala in March. After realising the mistake, the election officer, on Wednesday, withdraw his order.
