Situation in violence-hit Hindaun town under control

Last Updated 04 April 2018, 17:02 IST

Curfew continued in Rajasthan's Hindaun town on Wednesday in the wake of Tuesday's retaliatory violence by non-Dalit protesters, who set ablaze houses of a couple of BJP and Congress leaders.

The situation has returned to normal in most affected areas of Hindaun. However, Internet services remain suspended as a precautionary measure.

Curfew was imposed on Tuesday after the situation turned tense as houses of local BJP MLA Rajkumari and former Congress MLA Bharosi Lal Jatav were burnt down by protesters.  A bus full of women were allegedly molested by the protesters. The non-Dalits were avening violence by Dalits during a  Bharat Bandh called against an alleged dilution of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Local police battalions, including Border Security Force, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary and Special Task Force, have been employed in the city to maintain law and order.
