Last Updated 04 April 2018, 18:34 IST

Chief Secretary K Ratna Prabha has set an April 16 deadline for government departments to show compliance with a Supreme Court directive to revise seniority of employees after a law that gave SC/STs reservation in promotion was struck down by the top court.

In a circular she issued on Wednesday, Ratna Prabha directed departments to take "consequential action" on the Supreme Court directive and revise the seniority list of employees and prepare a list of employees who will face demotions. In February 2017, the apex court had ordered that all consequential promotions given to the employees belonging to SC/STs under the Karnataka Determination of Seniority of the Government Servants Promoted on the Basis of Reservation (To the Posts in the Civil Services of the State) Act, 2002, will be null and void.

This is set to affect nearly 20,000 employees across 63 departments and 132 boards/corporations. An equal number will be promoted.
