'Model code of conduct will be implemented effectively'

To conduct a free and fair election, the model code of conduct will be implemented effectively in Mangaluru assembly constituency, said Mangaluru AC who is also the returning officer of Mangaluru constituency, Mahesh Karjagi.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he said that strict action would be initiated against those who violate the model code of conduct.

The constituency has 210 polling stations. Three flying squads, three static surveillance squad, one video verification team and a team to look into the expenditure have been formed.

Single window clearance system has been introduced to get prior permission for political parties.

He said that at present he has received applications seeking permission for religious programmes. There is no need to seek permission for such programmes. Political leaders should not sit on the stage, he added.
