Fishermen community to boycott elections

Last Updated 12 April 2018, 07:08 IST

Mangaluru Mogaveera Elu Pattana Samyukta Sabha has warned of boycotting the upcoming assembly elections and has also planned to stage a protest against the stand of political parties.

In a press release, association president Lakshman Amin Kodikal stated that though the fishermen community is strong in the Dakshina Kannada district, they are not considered properly by the political parties for the last 60 years and therefore, there is almost zero representation of the community in the government.

The representatives from the community must be provided tickets to contest in the elections from Mangaluru south, Mangaluru north or Moodbidri constituencies, the press release said.

If this does not happen, the members of Mangaluru Mogavira Elu Pattana Samyukta Sabha will boycott the elections. A protest will be staged in front of the DC's office on April 13.
