Public vent ire against movement of heavy vehicles

People have opposed the unabated movement of heavy vehicles on National Highway 234 at Charmadi ghat in the taluk.

In a day, more than 15,000 vehicles travel to and fro from Bengaluru, Mandya, Kolar and other places of the state as Shiradi Ghat has been closed.

Even though the district administration has forbidden the movement of heavy vehicles on Charmadi ghat, the drivers are not paying heed to the DC's order.

Locals allege a nexus between the authorised staff and the vehicle owners. The lorries transporting grass from Hassan to the coastal region are overloaded. As a result, the traffic blocks are frequent and the vehicles bound to the airport and also emergency vehicles are not reaching on time.

People have alleged that the staff at the check post are receiving kickbacks from grass lorry owners and have urged the district administration to take up necessary measures.
