MLA Bopaiah lobbying for a ticket

Virajpet sitting MLA K G Bopaiah has rushed to Bengaluru to lobby for the ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly elections as he is keen on becoming an MLA again.

He had panicked as his name was not on the first list of candidates announced by the BJP.

It is said that Bopaiah has returned with an assurance from senior leaders, after conducting a round of discussion with them.

Bopaiah for the first time faced rebel activities and this might create problems for him in earning the ticket.

Many leaders in the BJP maintained that fresh faces should be given a chance.

Some leaders also submitted a memorandum to the high-command to provide a ticket to a candidate belonging to Kodava community. This has further added hurdles to Bopaiah's path.

Kodagu district BJP has a strong RSS influence.

Bopaiah had taken a strong stand against the RSS earlier and his toughness on RSS is said to be boomeranging now.

Around 50,000 Kodava votes may divide if the ticket is provided to Bopaiah against their wish.

BJP high-command too, is aware of the fact, making it difficult for Bopaiah.

Machimanda Ravindra and Reena Prakash are aspirants from the same constituency. Reena has support from the High Command as well.

JD(S) has fielded Sanketh Poovaiah from Kodava community. In Congress, Harish Bopanna, Brijesh Kalappa and Padmini Ponnappa are in the race.

Bopaiah has won in 2004, 2008 and 2013. In 2004, he contested from Madikeri constituency.
