And in deed, with the summer holidays on for kids, a large number of tourists are thronging Kodagu. In fact, nearly 5,000 tourists visited Raja Seat on Saturday between 4 pm and 8 pm.

In the said four hours, tickets worth Rs 50,000 have been sold, which can be considered as a record. Such a large number of tourists never visited Kodagu other than during Dasara, it is said.

The vehicles from Bangalore-Mysore, Mangalore, Hassan are heading towards Madikeri. The roads were seen filled with vehicles during the weekends. Tourists were seen struggling to get a room in home stay and lodges. Finally, when they failed to get rooms, they ended in sleeping inside the vehicles in which they had come. Some had even returned without enjoying the beauty of Kodagu.

Having unable to get food in hotels, the tourists were seen making enquiries on alternative arrangements. Some were seen preparing food by the roadside with the help of a cook. On a whole, the number of tourists visiting Kodagu are increasing year by year. However, the district lacks from basic facilities.

Compared to other districts, the number of lodges are less in Kodagu. The home stay culture has developed. Lodges were booked one week to 15 days in advance by the tourists. With the tourists thronging the district, one can see smiles on the faces of the lodge and home stay owners.  The entry of thousands of vehicles to the narrow road has thrown the traffic out of gear. The police are finding it difficult to manage the traffic.
