Former minister's fate: Arrest only after verification

Police likely to visit the victims house in Kallahalli-Vinobha Nagar

Speaking to Deccan Herald over telephone, he said a spot investigation will be conducted on Tuesday. After preliminary investigation, the case will be handed over to the CID. SP said that along with written complaint, the complainants also have provided a CD and other documents which will be verified.

Circle Inspector Nagesh Shetty has been appointed as investigation officer to probe the case. Police are expected to visit the victim’s house in Kallahalli-Vinobha Nagar area of the city where the incident is said to have taken place and the inspection bungalow.

Cases were booked under Section 376 of IPC on charges of rape, 506 for criminal intimidation, 341 for wrongful restrainment and 342 for wrongful confinement. Victim Chandravathi arrived at Vinobha Nagar police station with her husband Venkatesh Murthy on Monday late evening and lodged a complaint with DySP Shekharappa in this regard. Based on the complaint, police have also booked cases under section 506 against Basavaraj and Girish, H Halappa’s assistants.

The premises of Vinobha Nagar police station was packed with curious people by the time the couple came to lodge the complaint. Confusion prevailed for some time at the police station as no officer was there to receive the complaint when the couple arrived.

A PSI who arrived after a few minutes asked the couple to lodge the complaint with women police station for which they said a clear no. DySP Shekharappa, who came to the spot, received the complaint after clearing the media persons and activists.

Leaders aware

Senior BJP leaders including Chief Minister were aware of the incident but never made any attempt to find a solution. Before going public on sexual assault against his wife, Venkateshamurthy had approached BJP leaders including K S Eshwarappa seeking justice.
