Ajjampura may get taluk-tag

The then MLA S  M Nagaraj and the then ZP president S Thipperudraiah had urged the government to form Ajjampura taluk by aggregating six hoblis, one from Hosadurga taluk, one from Kadur taluk, one from Channgiri taluk and three hoblis - Ajjampura, Shivani and Amritapura- from Tarikere taluk.

The name of Ajjampura had appeared in the previous government’s list, but it has been dropped in the M B Prakash Committee, which has disappointed and enraged the members of the public.

Eligibility

*Ajjampura has 12,000 population as per 2001 census.
*The region is leading in educational, social and political activities.
* It has a special place in art, literature and sports.
*Arecanut, mango, coconut, onion from Ajjampura have a good share in the market.
* Fulfledged private bus stand; connectivity to Bangalore, Mumbai.
*Road connectivity to Davangere, Shimoga, Chitradurga.
*Ajjampura has Amrut Mahal Thali Samvardhana Kendra, that was in news recently. Baggavalli Narasimhaswamy Temple and Amrutapura Amruteshwaraswamy Temple of Hoysala time are famous in Ajjampura.

Problems

*The people of Shivani hobli need to travel about 50 km to reach the present taluk centre.
*Transport facilities are insufficient.
*People of two hoblis need to depend on the present taluk for all medical necessities.
*For all government works, people need to depend on Tarikere.

What people say

Ajjampura Gram Panchayat President L Nagaratnamma said the government has been following step-motherly attitude by neglecting Ajjampura; and hence all parties will unitedly fight for the taluk tag in the coming days.

GP former president S Thipperudrappa said it is regrettable that the Prakash Panel has left out Ajjampura from its proposed list.

The GP member S Shivanand said the government should reconsider the proposal and follow the reports submitted earlier.

According to businessman S Nataraj, Ajjampura lacks taluk tag due to lack of political will. Student Rekha said the formation of new taluk will help students a lot in getting higher education.
