Public records bill

The draft bill is yet to come before the State Legislature. The draft is modelled on the Centre’s - The Public Records Act 1993.

Secretary for Information and Kannada and Culture B R Jayaramaraje Urs, on Wednesday, said the Bill, if passed, would help bring all public records under one roof and no person can carry any public record out of the country without the prior approval.

The draft defines public records as any document, manuscript, file, microfilm, facsimile copy of a document created by the government or commission, committees constituted by the government, corporation or any public undertaking.  The director of the State Archives will serve as coordinator to collect the public records and preserve them.
