The right-arm seamer, who played both the matches in the first phase against Afghanistan and South Africa, sustained the injury during a practice session on Wednesday following which he was sent for an MRI. The scans revealed a tear in abdomen muscle.

The bowler may return home on Thursday and the BCCI has announced Vidarbha’s Umesh Yadav as his replacement. The mediumpacer, who was not in the probables list, was played for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League III.

With Praveen’s injury-forced exit, R Vinay Kumar’s chances of bagging his first international match have brightened.

The Karnataka bowler, who had bagged 53 wickets in the domestic season and did an impressive job for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL III, will be first up against Australian batsmen should he get a chance.
