The arrested has been identified as Naushad of Santhoshnagara in Vamanjoor. Naushad was involved in the murder of Sukhanand Shetty. However, he was released on bail. It may be recalled that the police had arrested Iliyaz of Karkala on May 6 while two others — Mohammed Iqbal and Abdul Althaf were arrested recently in connection with the murder conspiracy.
Bid to murder man foiled Manipal police foiled a bid to murder a certain Jagadeesh Poojary alias Sanoor Jagga of Karkala by arresting the accomplices of underworld criminal Vishwanath Koraga Shetty.
The arrested have been identified as William D’Souza of Athur and Kishan Hegde of Inna village in Padubidri. Police have seized 8 rounds, 2 leathal weapons, 4 cellphones and 3 ATM cards.
It was said that Willian D’Souza had assaulted one Lakshman Poojary of Nandalike in Karkala taluk and was absconding. Later, he went to Sholapura in Maharashtra and tried to kill Jagadeesh Poojary by collecting his movements from his friend Kishan Hegde. He had tried to kill Poojary using leathal weapons on April 30. However, the bid was foiled. Later, Vishwanath Koraga Shetty had reportedly asked the duo to shoot Poojary.
Acting on a tip off, Udupi DySP Jayanth Shetty arrested to duo while they had come to collect pistol at Manipal End Point. Kishan Hegde’s brother Kiran Hegde is serving a sentence in connection with the murder of a person from Gulbarga in Bellary jail.
Drowned
A man drowned in Malpe St Mary’s island while taking bath on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Marwin Desar.
Man electrocuted
A person was electrocuted while painting a house in Madhwanagara in Malpe. The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Chettiyar. He was electrocuted while switching off the invertor switch. A case has been registered.
